Mid-Year Check-In: Your Quarter Two Closeout Guide

Hey there! Dr. Nikeya here, and I can't believe we're already halfway through 2024! Time is flying, and before we jump headfirst into Quarter 3, I want to make sure you're taking time to reflect, reset, and realign with your goals.


In our latest podcast episode, I shared my personal Quarter Two Closeout process - it's like halftime in a basketball game. We've played hard for the first half of the year, and now it's time to huddle up, assess what's working, what needs tweaking, and game plan for a winning second half!


What Went Really Well?

Listen, it's SO easy to just move from one accomplishment to the next without ever stopping to celebrate. I'm guilty of this too! But when I sat down with my planner (yes, I'm team paper planner all day!), I was reminded of some big wins:


  • Completing my women's entrepreneurship certificate from Cornell University

  • Speaking at the Toastmasters conference with my "Speak Up, Stand Out, Own the Stage" workshop

  • Speaking on a panel for Black in Corporate in partnership with H&M

  • Taking some much-needed mommy getaways (shoutout to my hubby Rodney!)

  • Launching Season 8 of the VLS Podcast after a long break


Take a moment right now to jot down 3-5 wins from YOUR second quarter. Big or small, they all deserve recognition!


What Could Have Been Better?

Now, this is where we need some grace, honey! Life be lifing, and not everything will go according to plan. For me, though I was hitting the gym, my overall nutrition wasn't where I wanted it to be. I'm a Type A personality, so I can easily get caught up taking care of business and everyone else while neglecting certain aspects of my own self-care.


What areas of your life didn't quite hit the mark in Q2? No judgment - just honest reflection.


How to Prepare for Quarter Three


Physically

I've been loving my walking pad! It's a smaller version of a treadmill that starts around $100 on Amazon. My goal is 5,000 steps daily (working up to 10,000), and I make it fun by watching YouTube teachings while I walk. Before I know it, an hour has passed, and I've crushed my step goal before my morning coffee!


Spiritually

Baby, we NEED to be equipped spiritually right now more than ever! I'm doing the "Read the Bible in One Year" plan and am about 171 days in. Find a translation you understand and get that Word in you daily. Think about your daily inputs as a pie chart - how much is social media versus spiritual feeding? Increase your spiritual input, and you'll be better off than most people around you.


Financially

Stop spending money you don't have! That's all I'm going to say about that right now (we'll have a special guest coming soon to dive deeper). This isn't the season for extravagant purchases or vacations - it's time to stock up, pay things off, and stay focused on your work.


Mentally

Find the joy, honey! Whether it's hiking with family (like I recently did), getting your nails done, or having lunch with friends - MAKE TIME for it. Don't just say "we should get together" - pull out your calendar and set a date! I challenge you to identify 3-5 people you want to connect with before July ends.


Your Mid-Year Reset

Remember, this is halftime in your 2024 game. There are still six whole months to make this year amazing! Whether your first half was stellar or struggling, now is the perfect time to adjust your strategy and finish strong.
