Stop Majoring in the Minors | Dr. Nikeya Young x Tracey Barbour | VLS Podcast Ep 84

Have you ever felt like you're constantly busy but not actually accomplishing anything meaningful? Like you're spread so thin that nothing gets your full attention? I feel you! And that's exactly why I invited my friend Tracey Barbour to join me on the latest episode of the Victorious Living Solutions Podcast.

When Life Gets Complicated

Let me tell you why I themed this entire season "The Simple Life." It's because the world is going absolutely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs right now! In times of unrest and uncertainty, the best thing we can do as children of God is to get still, scale back, and just KEEP IT SIMPLE.

But that's easier said than done, right?

As Tracey pointed out during our conversation, "We are actually not meant to multitask because there actually is no such thing. Our brains are wired to focus. Anything other than that is called 'die-vision.'"

Y'all, that hit me like a ton of bricks! Die-vision. When we're trying to look in multiple directions at once, we're not focusing on anything. The Bible even warns us about this: "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." Not SOME ways. ALL ways!

The Social Media Trap

One of the biggest culprits stealing our focus? That antisocial media (as Tracey brilliantly calls it)!

We might post something and then check every few minutes to see how many likes and comments we got. Or worse, we compare our engagement to others and feel like failures when our numbers don't match up.

But here's the truth bomb Tracey dropped: "Great is not judged by audience size."

Let that sink in for a minute.

Your value, your message, your purpose - none of that is determined by how many people double-tap your photo or watch your live stream. What matters is that you're being obedient to what God has called you to do.

Living at a Natural Pace with a Doable Load

Toward the end of our conversation, Tracey shared a principle from Valerie Burton's book "It's About Time" that completely changed my perspective:

"Living a life that is meaningful at a pace that is natural with a load that is doable."

Meaningful. Natural. Doable.

Not successful by the world's standards. Not rushed to meet everyone else's timeline. Not overloaded because you can technically handle it.

Instead, focus on what brings meaning to YOUR life, move at a pace that feels natural to YOU, and carry only what YOU can reasonably manage.

The Challenge

So here's my challenge to you: Identify one area where you're majoring in the minors. Where are you spending energy on things that don't align with your purpose? What can you let go of to create space for what truly matters?

Remember, simplifying isn't about doing less - it's about doing what matters most.
