Summer is finally here (or at least on its way), and if you're like most people, you've got big plans, dreams, and expectations. But what if I told you that the secret to an amazing summer isn't packing your schedule or breaking the bank? In the latest episode of the Victorious Living Solutions podcast, I'm sharing my top five tips for simplifying summer while maximizing joy.
Why Simplify?
In a world that feels increasingly chaotic and uncertain, simplicity isn't just nice—it's necessary. The "simple life" theme for Season 8 of the podcast isn't about deprivation; it's about thriving by removing unnecessary complications. When we simplify, we create space for what truly matters.
Tip #1: Embrace the Staycation
Y'all, I'm gonna lean in when I say this: staycations can be just as fun as vacations! You don't need to spend a fortune or travel thousands of miles to have an incredible experience. Look at your own town or state through a tourist's lens.
Action Step:Â Visit your state's tourism website and find attractions within a 50-60 mile radius. That observation deck you've driven past a million times? That local museum you've been meaning to check out? Now's the time!
Tip #2: Set Limits for Kids' Activities
Parents, listen up! Those summer camp brochures are about to flood your mailbox (if they haven't already), and your kids will want to do EVERYTHING. Without limits, you'll blink, and summer will be over—with you having done nothing but serve as an unpaid chauffeur.
Action Step:Â Have your children choose 2-3 activities for the entire summer. This gives them something to look forward to while preserving family time and your sanity.
Tip #3: Try a New Look
Summer is the perfect time to play with your appearance! For my Black girl squad, you know what time it is—braids season is upon us! But this applies to everyone: try a new haircut, grow a beard, add color to your wardrobe, or experiment with different styles.
Action Step:Â If you're considering a haircut, do it early in summer so it has time to grow back if you're not in love with it.
Tip #4: Change Your View
After being cooped up (especially in places like Chicago where winter feels eternal), it's time to get outside and enjoy different scenery. Take walks in nature, visit beaches, explore parks, and soak up that vitamin D.
Action Step: Plan a budget-friendly social gathering at a local park with friends. Everyone brings something to share, someone brings a speaker, and boom—you've got a party without breaking the bank.
BONUS Tip: Plan for Q3 and Q4 Now
June marks the halfway point of the year, which makes it the perfect time to sketch out plans for the second half. Once July and August hit, you'll be too busy "living your best life in these streets" to think about planning.
Action Step:Â Download our free goal-setting worksheet at victoriouslivingsolutions.com to help map out your focus for the next two quarters.
Simplicity Is the Ultimate Sophistication
By implementing these five simple strategies, you'll create a summer that feels full and satisfying without the overwhelm. Remember, it's not about doing more—it's about doing what matters most.
